Maya is an animation software that has been created by Autodesk.  The software costs $5,775.  The type of animation that Maya creates is 3D animation.  Maya is used regularly for animation, modelling and rendering.

Autodesk Maya, or better known as Maya is a 3D computer software, which has a variety of features such as, 3D animation, modelling, match moving, rendering, visual effects, compositing and simulation.  This software is mainly used as a modelling and animation software that is used to create 3D objects.  Maya has the ability to produce images and videos that are very high quality, giving it a realistic look.  The development of this software now allows you to render your animation with a realistic look to it, making your animation appear to be natural.  Some of the realistic effects include: movement of clothes, smoke in the air and movement of clouds and dust.

Some of the animation features of Maya are 2d animation, 3D camera tracker, bullet physics, fluid dynamics, keyframe animation, multiple camera shots, particle engine and rigid body dynamics.

Some of the modelling features are filter effects, polygons, layers, import 3D models and rigging.

Some of the materials and textures are cloth, fur, hair, muscles and toon shading.

Maya is supported by three different platforms, which are: Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Mike de la Flor said, “Autodesk Maya 2014 is a genuine milestone upgrade. This release plugs the gaping hole that has existed in Maya’s polygonal modeling toolset and continues the refinement of its character animation tools with a Grease Pencil and new Joint Tool options.”  http://www.studiodaily.com/2013/08/review-autodesk-maya-2014/

Kurt Foster said, “Autodesk® Maya® 3D animation software offers a comprehensive creative feature set for 3D computer animation, modeling, simulation, rendering, and compositing on a highly extensible production platform. Maya now has next-generation display technology, accelerated modeling work flow, and new tools for handling complex data.”  http://www.renderosity.com/maya-2014-in-review-cms-16697

Cinema 4D is an animation software, which is created by Maxon.  The software costs $3,510.  The type of animation that Cinema 4D creates is 3D animation.  Cinema 4D is used regularly for animation, modelling and rendering.

Cinema 4D is a modelling animation software, which specialises in animation, modelling and rendering.  Cinema 4D contains four different softwares produced by Maxon, which are: Cinema 4D Prime, Cinema 4D Studio, Cinema 4D Broadcast and Cinema 4D Visualise.

Some of the animation features are: bullet physics, fluid dynamics, keyframe animation, mask, lipsync, morphing, rigid body dynamics and particle engine.

Jean Pichot said, “The first time I used Cinema 4D was after taking on a project that required 3D – and spending the weekend before production learning as much as I could about the software.”  http://www.digitalartsonline.co.uk/reviews/motion-graphics/cinema-4d-r15-review/

Mike de la Flor said, “Cinema 4D is a high-end modeling, animation, motion graphics, and special effects suite popular with professionals and amateurs alike.”  http://www.studiodaily.com/2013/02/review-maxon-cinema-4d-r14/

Blender:

Blender is a 3D software, which is created by Blender Foundation.  The software is free to all users.  The type of animation that Blender creates is 3D computer graphics.  Blender is used regularly for animation, modelling and rendering.

Blender is commonly used for: 3D modelling, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging, rendering, camera tracking, video editing and compositing.

Blender is a free 3D graphic software, which is used for texturing, modelling and much more.  This allows anyone to have access to the software because it is free.  However, Blender is run by a community, which means that there may not be updates on time, which could result in the software becoming out dated and losing users.

Considering Blender is a free software application, it has a relatively small installation size of 70MB, however has a reputation of being difficult to learn for users who have used other 3D software.

Blender has been used professionally for television commercials in various parts of the world including, Brazil, Australia, Russia, Sweden and Iceland.  This shows that Blender is a brilliant software considering that it is free.

The interface of Blender is described to allow the users to change, adapt and re distribute the layout of all the components and tools to fit the users needs.

Blender offers a variety of tools to their users, allowing the user to create detailed looking characters.

When you begin rigging with Blender, it allows the user to transform any model into a character, showing that Blender provided sophisticated algorithms, which allow realistic mesh displacement.

When modelling with solids on Blender, it allows the user to create hard surface and subdivision modelling, using beneficial tool such as, 3D objects including polygons and meshes, to create modified solids.

Animation is a big feature within Blender because the animation tools allow the user to create simple movements such as, a walk cycle or complex movements such as, lip syncing, giving their animated character human features making it realistic.

Bobulous said, “Blender is an all-in-one 3D modelling and animation suite. It can be used to produce computer-generated images and movies. It is open source freeware, so it costs nothing to use.”  http://www.bobulous.org.uk/imho/BlenderFortnight.html

Jack M. Germain said, “The Blender graphics tool can result in some great-looking 3D imagery — once you learn the software so you can unlock all its capabilities.”  http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/77438.html

Maya would be used over Cinema 4D and Blender because it is the most professional and versatile 3D software out there.  Maya is used in all kinds of post production studios across the world.  However, Cinema 4D would be used because it is one of the most user friendly applications that is available allowing the user to design their objects easily.  Cinema 4D has an array of different editions and bundles to choose from.  Whereas, Blender would be the best because it is free for anyone to access allowing anyone to create 3D models.  Also, it has a sheer amount of high quality modelling and animation tools to provide its users with.
