Task 2.2

After I finished making my mind map with my 10 game ideas, I then picked 3 games, which I would maybe consider designing and pursuing that idea.  Here are the mood boards of my final three game ideas, which are ‘Footballers Life’, ‘Swarve London’ and ‘Birth Stones’.  Please refer to the mood boards with the features of my different game ideas below:

Task 2.3

Footballers Life:

The concept of Footballers Life is to live the life of a professional footballer in a virtual world.  You will sign your first contract for a football team in the lowest league in your country and work your way up to the best league in your country, where you will eventually live in your royal mansions, whilst driving around in your luxurious cars, whether it would be a Lamborghini or a Ferrari.  You would then go to your training sessions everyday to develop your skills within the beautiful game of football, before you take to the roaring stadiums for your make or break football matches against your arch rivals.  You will work your way to the top league through starting in the first 11 and doing well in your chosen position on the football pitch, so if you are a striker, the more goals you score, you would get signed by another team in a higher league during the transfer window.  Once you play your way to the top league of your country, you can then be signed by other clubs around the globe, making you an international star.  Alongside going to your daily training and your important football matches you can go to events such as signings or host training sessions for children and young adults to build up your fan base.  This will help to increase your fame making you a recognised player in the game of football and a global star.  This game can be played on iOS, Android, PS3, XBOX360, Wii, PC, PSP, PS Vita DS and 3DS.

Swarve London:

The concept of Swarve London is to search around London in search for your swarveness.  You may be sprinting around Oxford Street and popping into Ted Baker or running down Kings Road and visiting Jack Wills.  There will be several locations where you will pick one location where you want to shop to get your required swarveness.  Also, if you go out shopping in real life, such as Westfield or Oxford Street, there will be a feature on the game where you will be playing the game in real life and would have to go around the place and find the items that are required for your outfit, before the time runs out, you will then take a picture of that item so that the game knows you have found the item and to help you complete the level in the allocated time period.  At the beginning of the level you will be told what items you need to collect and from what store you need to collect it from.  At the end of the level you will see the items that you have collected and what outfit you have made and what occasion it is for.  You will then run around that location where you will have to go into the different shops to collect your items required before the time runs out.  Once you have collected all your items you will then have an outfit for the occasion that you are attending, such as a suit for a wedding or t-shirt and shorts for a summer holiday.  There would be different characters that you can unlock to help you collect your items.  The items that you collect to create your outfit would then be stored in your walk in wardrobe.  The characters that you have unlocked would then be able to wear the outfits and items that you have collected.  You will also be able to create your own player allowing the gamer to feel like the game has been personalised to their needs.  This game can only be played on iOS and Android.

Birth Stones

The concept of Birth Stones is to combine at least 3 birth stones, which will then get destroyed.  There will be 12 different birth stones, which you will try and combine together to destroy them.  Once you have combined the birth stones you will receive information about the birth stone on the game.  There will be 12 levels, which correspond to the 12 months in a year.  There will be 31 levels in January, March, May, July, August, October and December, there will be 30 levels in April, June, September and November and 28 levels in February.  The different levels will correspond to the month and season, so if it is December, then there will be snow in the background.  Once you combine the birth stones 12 times you will then unlock half of the birth stone and half of the information on the birth stone in the Birth Stone Book, where it will contain a fact file on the birth stone.  Once you collect all 12 birth stones you will unlock a badge and there will be 12 badges to collect.  At the end of the level you will have a review of how many birth stones you have combined and will have a points tally for the amount of points you have collected from that level.  The game will allow the gamer to learn about the different birth stones and what their significance is because it can educated the gamer, whilst they are having fun playing the game.  Also, you will be able to put in your birthday, so that the game can be personalised to your requirements, so when you open the game, your star sign will appear along with a quote that matches the star sign and a different quote will appear everyday with your star sign.  This game can be played on iOS, Android, DS and 3DS.

Final Game Idea-Birth Stones

My final game idea that I have picked is Birth Stones because I believe that it was the best game idea that I had out of the ten game ideas that I came up with.  I have now began the designing process for my game.  I am using Adobe Illustrator CC to design the different parts of my game.  I have began my designing process by creating the different Birth Stones for my game.  Please refer below for my designs.

Task 2.4

The target audience for my game, Birth Stones are young adults and adults who have mobile phones because my game is compatible with iOS and Android.  The market research that I carried out allowed me to understand what type of people my game would appeal to.  My game will be for both genders because 50% were men and the other 50% were women.  The age group would range from 16-30+.  It will appeal to most people because 19 out of the 20 people that I asked either had iOS or Android phones.  Also, 80% of the people is asked played games on their mobile phones.  90% of the people enjoyed playing puzzle games on their phones.  All of the people that I asked said that the Birth Stones theme would appeal to them.  Please refer to the images below to see my questionnaire and results to my questionnaire.

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 18.38.43

Screen Shot 2013-10-20 at 18.39.22

My game, Birth Stones will appeal to my audience because it is unique as it has a special theme of birthstones.  Although there are games that are similar to my game, Birth Stones, it will give the audience and gamers a different experience because of the different designs and features.  Also, it allows the gamer to feel a sense of achievement because they will unlock Birth Stone Fact Files and Star Sign Badges.

The target audience believed that my game, Birth Stones was a brilliant concept and is a game that could appeal to people who are younger than 16 because it can teach them about the different birth stones making the game educational ass well as fun.  They also thought that Birth Stones would appeal to everyone because we all have a birth stone, which would make the game personal to the gamer who is playing it.  Moreover, it is compatible with iOS and Android, making available to most people and have access to it everywhere since the game is on your phone.

Other games that are similar to my games, Birth Stones are Candy Crush Saga and Bejeweled Blitz.  Both the games are similar because of the concept and style of game it is.  However, Candy Crush Saga is different because it uses candies as its characters, whereas Bejeweled Blitz uses jewels as its characters.  Also, when you merge three characters together you get rid off them, but if you merge more than three you get rid of them as well as creating a special character, which is more powerful.

My competition is other puzzle games.  Refer to the picture to see where the different free puzzle games are.

Task 2.5

The target platform for Birth Stones is mobile because my game is compatible with iOS and Android, which most mobile devices are powered by.  I have chosen this platform because the majority of my target audience are most likely going to have a phone.  Also, many people will have access to the game since it is on iOS and Android.  Moreover, if it is on a mobile phone, it enables you to play Birth Stones anywhere because you take your phone with you.  The game is free making it available to anyone so they wouldn’t have to pay for it because it would allow everyone to experience Birth Stones and what they feel whilst playing the game.  The world of mobile apps and games are also increasing, showing me that I should add to the growth of that by making Birth Stones available on mobile devices.

Task 2.6

The genre of my game is puzzle games.  I have chosen genre of game because my game, Birth Stones is both fun and educational because you learn about the different birthstones, whilst completing the different levels by combining the birthstones.  The bestsellers of this genre on the market are:

Untitled 2

I am going to compete by keeping the content relevant to the game, giving the gamer a unique experience whilst playing Birth Stones, give feedback after the complete the level allowing the gamer to see how well they have done, keep the designs unique and varied so that the gamer feels a different experience during the game and making my game user friendly so that they understand and play the game easily.

Spectrum:

I have decided to change my game idea and concept of the game.  I have now decided to get rid off the birthstones idea and make it into a game that is similar to Tetris.  My game idea still has my background designs, but no longer will have the birthstones.  I have developed my new game idea from the designs of my background.  My new game idea ‘Spectrum’ will have a similar concept to Tetris.  The gamer will have to match the different colours on the one object to each other.  The objects on each level will have different colours.  I am using Adobe Illustrator CC to design the different parts of my game.  I have began my designing process by creating the different objects for my game.  Please refer below for my designs.

Here is the the beginning of my game design for the different objects:

Other games that are similar to my game, Spectrum are Tetris and Dots.  Both the games are similar because of the concept, design, layout and style of gameplay.  However, Tetris is different because it uses different shaped blocks, which you join together to form a line and get rid of as many lines as u can, whereas Dots is different because you have to join the dots together in the form of dot to dot to get rid of those dots.  On the other hand, Tetris is similar to my game because of the layout and the gameplay, whereas Dots is similar because of the design for the dots I use in my game.
